Welcome to
Step 1: Initial Contact
Email the interviewee and the teacher.
Step 2: The Interview
- Politely, avoiding interruption, greet the teacher and introduce yourself.
- Ask the teacher to release your interviewee- say thank you!
- Greet the student & introduce yourself.
- Walk them outside, or somewhere peaceful, and talk to them
- Be prepared with questions.
- Write down or record the interview
- Ask lots of follow-up questions so you can write a good story.
- Make sure you have the correct spelling of their name
- Review your quotes/ fact check with them
- Thank them for the interview, and drop them off back to class
- Come back to class, make sure Ms. Kairys signs your interview notes
- If you need to photograph them, make another appointment.
If your appointment falls through:
- Send them an email to reschedule
- AVOID asking for them NOW-- that seems rude to teachers
- Start looking for a PLAN B (an alternative interviewee)
- Be productive!-- so if an interview falls through-- move on to another package, story, task, or get a new person to interview.
Step 4: The Gratitude
Send your interviewee & teacher a "Thank You" email. (It's classy!)
Find the ORIGINAL email you sent (don't just compose a new message) and send it on the same thread.
